Golfbaan: LA CORUÑA

The La Coruña Royal Golf Club is located in north-western Spain, and conserves and respects the natural environment. The layout of the course features broad tree-lined fairways. There are various holes with lakes in front of the green which play a constant role in the circuit.

After many years since the origins of the Royal Golf Club of La Coruña, it is difficult to assess how were the first meetings, negotiations, contacts and especially great power of permission that had to be had with many people to become a sports society whose The main goal was to practice a totally unknown sport in our Galician region and that only, and very uniquely, there were 15 in the Peninsula, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.

However, on September 1, 1961, a group of friends met at the Nautical Club at the request of José Antonio Quiroga to present their idea of studying the possibility of forming a Golf Club in La Coruña, as the book of Proceedings of the Club Management Committee formed by Jesús Sáez Alfeiran, Joaquín Menéndez Ponte and Jaime Hervada. Immediately the Management Committee was formalized with new enthusiasts of the idea so that the Committee that would carry out the definitive creation of the Club was definitively formed.

This Committee formed by José Antonio Quiroga, Jesús Sáez Alfeiran, Jaime Hervada, Joaquín Menéndez Ponte, Francisco Dotras, Ramón Cobian, Manuel Sánchez Salorio and Antonio Yordi, immediately began to study the possibility, complicated in Galicia at that time, to get in the vicinity of La Coruña a piece of land with an approximate area of 50 Ha. After going through a series of places where access was often the inconvenience and others were the innumerable number of owners in small plots, it was discovered through an advertisement in the newspaper that in the place of the mountains of La Zapateira covered by the City Councils of La Coruña, Arteixo and Culleredo there was a property owned by Mrs. Carmen Leis that met all the fundamental conditions for the location, although its unique access by an unpaved road from the Alvedro airport area represented a certain limitation, of course, salvageable.
